The NAFL was formed in 1999 with 18 teams. The goal was to create a self sustaining football league where players can develop
their skills or to play for the love of the game. Our defining feature is our national playoff system.
The first
championship game was played in Daytona Beach, Florida where Central Penn Piranha beat the Texas Storm. In 2000, the NAFL
grew to 40 teams and the state of Texas avenged its loss where the Austin Rattlers beat the Alabama Renegades.
In
2001 Austin maintained its reign as NAFL champions by beating the Central Penn Piranha in Springfield, Missouri. After a few
years of rebuilding the Central Penn reclaimed the national championship by beating the Austin Rattlers in 2002.
By
2003 the NAFL entered the mainstream by playing it's championship game at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando,
FL. Newcomers, Eastside Hawks and Kane County Eagles, battled it out where the Eagles maintained it's dominance as America's
top minor league team. In 2004 East side Hawks fought back and beat a very tough Central Penn Piranha in the best minor league
football game ever played.
2005 brings a whole new attitude to the sport. With earned credibility the NAFL is adding
two more dimensions to minor league football: Fans and Sponsors. The NAFL had to prove it could survive as a self sustaining
league for 5 years in order to earn the trust and credibility often violated as new leagues start and fold each year. The
NAFL is well on it's way to becoming a household name and a level of football where players can get a legitimate shot at landing
a college scholarship all the way to getting picked up by the pros.
Our Mission
The mission of the NAFL is to provide a self sustaining level of football that allows players to develop skills or simply
for the love of the game.
